Project financing for renewable energy generation

The introduction of Japan's feed-in tariff mechanism for renewable energy in July 2012, designed to boost the generation of renewable energy with generous subsidies, saw an influx of new parties interested in the field, including business planners, sponsors, owners of idle land, permit-holders, and experts in the renewable energy generation.

However, finance remained one of the biggest challenges for new entrants with expertise in fields such as developing renewable energy installations and energy sales coming into the market. Finding access to financing on favorable terms without an established business profile or track record with financial institutions was a major hurdle to active participation by our client.

Applying specialist knowledge and expertise

We applied our specific knowledge and expertise of the renewable energy market to help them enter the market. In addition to accounting and tax advice, we offered financial advisory services, including simulating cash flows, explaining initiatives being pursued by various financial institutions, and then introducing contacts at an institution which subsequently agreed to supply finance for the project.
